In 1873, Ignazio Corpi, a powerful Genoese shipbuilder in what was then known as the European quarter of Constantinople, commissioned a palatial residence bearing his family’s name. He engaged Italian architect Giacomo Leoni, who set about importing marble from Carrara for the flooring and facings and Piemonte rosewood for the doors and window frames. Famous artists of the day were invited to create the wall paintings depicting Greek mythological scenes in the entrance hall and on the ceilings of the Great Hall. The building took nine years in total to complete. Following Iganzio’s death, his nephews leased the building to the American ambassador, John G.A. Leishman. SPARK has won an international competition for a new masterplan, which will be developed by Guangzhou Chuangyard Property Company. The new development, encompassing a total of 1,254 million square meters, will transfrom one of the most important shipbuilding facilities dating from the 19th century into a dynamic and vibrant mixed-use waterfront destination. AFL Architects have released details of their proposed stadium design for Turkey’s bid to host the UEFA Euro 2024 soccer tournament. The Ataturk Stadium seeks to become the new home of Turkish football, featuring a closer relationship between spectators and the game, enhanced acoustics, and world-class hospitality. The scheme involves extensive renovation and adaption of the existing Olympic stadium structure and forms a crucial part of Turkey’s bid for the Euro 2024 tournament, which was submitted in April 2018. In collaboration with the Turkish Football Federation (TFF), AFL has examined the readiness of seven stadia, and the major upgrade and design of three stadia. First detailed construction photographs have been released for Zaha Hadid Architects' new Beijing Airport Terminal Building, the new airport is expected to become North China's air travel hub, situated on the border of Beijing and Langfang, Hebei. The new photographs, released by Chinadaily.com.cn, show that 80 percent of the interior construction has already been completed and all the external work is finished. The 700,00-square-metre terminal building and 80,000-square-metre ground transportation centre have been designed as extremely-used focused, energy efficient and adaptable building for future growth. Zaha Hadid's first private residential home has finally been completed on the north-facing hillside within the Barvikha Forest near Moscow, where pine and birch trees grow up to 20m high. Commissioned by Russian businessman and philanthropist Vladislav Doronin, who also runs real estate companies OKO Group and Capital Group and a luxury and resort hotel brand Aman, the "specaship-looking" residence is the only private home that Hadid had designed in her lifetime. Called Capital Hill Residence, the 2,650-square-metre house is comprised of two major components: the first part is merged with the sloping forested landscape, while a separate tower floats 22 metres above the ground to provide a spectacular view of the forest over the trees. Zaha Hadid Architects has completed its first project in New York City and it has been photographed by architectural photographers Hufton+Crow, exposing all sinuous details of the building with its distinctive language in the context.
